From the Vault – The House of Love

Some bands become synonymous with one song. In a way, it’s better to have that than to have nothing at all. The House of Love’s big nerve-touching-live-forever number is the one you have had playing in your head since you saw their name in the title. And yes, ‘Shine On ‘ is a fantastic song. But there was a lot more to the band than that. Simply put, they were great. Like many a pioneer, they were probably about five years too early to enjoy the success they deserved – by the mid 90s any halfwit with floppy hair and a guitar was on Top of the Pops – but listen to ‘I Don’t Know Why I Love You’ here and you’ll agree that, sometimes, just being fantastic is enough.
