Hot property: Esperi

We get a lot of new stuff thrust at us here at ELM, some of which we like, some of which we don’t. Being all-round good eggs, we tend to ignore the stuff we don’t like rather than absolutely destroy it. What’s the point in savaging an up-and-coming artist struggling for a break when you can pour vitriol at bastards like Florence or Ed Sheeran? Exactly. The other benefit of this policy is, of course, that when we tell you we like something, it’s because we really do like something. Step forward Esperi.

Esperi is actually multi-instrumentalist Chris Marr. His new EP Melancholics Anonymous is released on May 21st 2012 via Fall On Records. It’s lovely, in all the senses of that word. pastoral, soothing yet effortlessly interesting, it recalls Nick Drake at his most vibrant while avoiding the smugness of some many modern folkies. It’s well worth checking out and bodes well for his album later in the summer.

  1. I thought this was pretty good too. He needs some fuzz guitar and really fast songs, though……..
