Shearwater – Animal Joy

Originally starting as an off-shoot of Okkervill River, Shearwater are a very distinct band. Mixing elements of  The NationalTalk Talk, Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake to create a sound that is as proud and upright as a Depression-era farmer, their new record Animal Joy is their best yet. Like all the best bands, they make you feel a bit twisty inside. Sadness, defiance, joy…all are present and correct here. Oh, and you can sing along to the tunes too. Listen to ‘Animal Life’ and thank us later.

  1. You guys are on the money. I caught these chaps live on Sunday night. Sterling stuff. The album, as was the last one, is superb.

My only regret was not having a wee word with the multi-instrumentalist/keyboardist, Lucas Oswald, who also plays with the underrated and always overlooked, The Appleseed Cast.

Sterling work fae you guys, as per usual.

  2. Thank you! What a nice comment!

Was sorry to have missed the gig. Totally blown away by the album.

  3. I was totally underwhelmed by the album, strangely as I was looking forward to it. It sounds a tad over-wrought and melodramatic. Some great tracks but not what I had hoped for.

  4. It’s massively overwrought and melodramatic!
