Wednesday what’s new? – Mystery Jets

There were many things that I didn’t expect when I were but a slip of a lad. Being able to carry all my music about in a tiny little box, for one. Having a camera on my mobile phone. Having a mobile phone. But most of all, I didn’t think a whole host of young bands at the start of the tens would apparently pattern their sound on ‘Big Area’ by Then Jericho.

But, here we are and it is what it is. Probably best of the retro people plowing a furrow in the field we formerly called indie are the Mystery Jets, whom were very annoying when they first started but have since established themselves as a very good singles band. Their latest effort ‘Show Me The Light’ is another corker.

But, that said, I still can’t help but think back to a simpler time when a man could sing about ‘this big area of mine’ and not only not be arrested and placed on a register, but become a pop star. Simpler times folks.
