Friday from the vault – The Jayhawks

You can be too good. You can be too consistent. Audiences just expect, after a while, that certain peoplealways deliver. Philp Seymour Hoffman is always the best thing in any movie. Roger Federer is almost metronomically perfect on a tennis court. And The Jayhawks have never, ever released an album that was anything less than great. And yet, people seem to appreciate them more than they love them. Maybe, a bit like Teenage Fanclub, fans know they can rely on them. They know that Gary Louris and Mark Olson’s gang will never let them down, so they spread the love to other acts who they feel maybe need it a bit more. Who knows. What we do know, however, is that their 2003 single ‘Save It For a Rainy Day’ is a sparkly, shimmering diamond of a song. Enjoy.
