The Strokes are Back

NME reports that the Strokes played their first live show in four years at Dingwalls in London last night, under the name Venison. The set contained no new stuff, and instead featured tracks from the first three albums.

The band are headlining the Isle of Wight and Rockness festivals this weekend, amid talk of a first new album since 2005’s First Impressions of Earth. Since then, Albert Hammond Jr has produced two superb solo albums, while Julian Casablancas 2009 debut was a well-received piece of electro-shudder wich hinted at a whole new direction.

Of course, we’ve been here before; in 2003, the talk was of a brave new album helmed by Radiohead knob-twiddler nigel Godrich. the band legendarily panicked at the new direction and ran back to their old producer to essentially re-make Is This It? It will be interesting to see how it shapes up.

We’ll have a full review from Rockness next week.
