Friday From Vault – Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers

The election is over, and nobody has won. Only in Britain could we devise a system where something which positively screams for a definitive ending can end in a draw. The CBI have already said it’s the worst thing which could ever happen ever to Britain, but then again the CBI say that when they are low on fax paper or it’s raining. But it does appear that we won’t be allowed to get away from political posturing for a wee while yet. And it’s the grey skies UK politics at that. Dull and depressing.

Oh, I’m so bored with the UK, as the Clash didn’t sing. So we need to escape. And there is nothing more romantic than the idea of getting into a car and driving through America. An ideal scenario which this video captures that magnificently. Oh, and most importantly, it features THE definitive road song, the magnificent ‘Roadrunner.’ Some would argue that with this song Jonathan Richman said more about young people in a car than Springsteen ever did. Enjoy.
